Scoop the Poop!

Here at Burns we support responsible dog ownership, and the ever growing problem of dog waste is a perennial concern. It's a minority of dog owners who spoil it for the rest.

Dog waste is an expensive problem

scoop the poop• Councils claim it costs them £22 million per year to clean-up dog poop. (Source:Encams)

• By law it is every dog owner's duty to clear up after their dog. Failure to do so can even lead to a fine of up to £1000 and even prosecution (Level 3) - The Dogs (Fouling of Land) Act 1996.

• There are approximately between 6.5 and 7.4 million dogs in the UK, producing around 1,000 tonnes of faeces every day (source: Encams)

• A recent survey by Keep Britain Tidy found that 76% of the public think that dog owners that persistently let their dogs foul should be banned from owning a canine. (source: Encams)

• MP’s in Britain get more letters complaining about dog fouling than any other issue.

• The Isle of Man has introduced DNA Testing in a bid to rid the Island of doggy poop. This technology enables police to match the poop to the dog and prosecute the owner. They are urging residents to report irresponsible owners so they can take action. (source:ManchesterOnline)

• Despite the many Poop Scoop products on the market, the cheapest and quickest way to clean up after your pooch is to always carry poo bags with you and make sure you Grab it, Bag it, and Bin it.

• If Dog Waste bins are not provided it is not an offence to dispose of the poop in a normal litter bin.

The solution is simple!

• GRAB IT – Always keep a supply of plastic bags near your dog’s lead so you don’t forget to take a poop scoop bag with you on every walk. Simply insert your hand in the plastic bag and pick up your dog's waste. It’s easy and not as bad as you think!

• BAG IT – Carefully turn the plastic bag inside out and your dog's mess will then be ‘bagged’.

• BIN IT – Dispose of your bag in a ‘Poop’ bin. Contrary to popular belief, dog waste can also be put into a public litterbin if a specific dog waste bin is not provided.
