The Burns Helpline
(and why it's different!)

0800 083 66 96 (UK) or Online

Look on the tin or packet of any brand of pet food and you will see that the majority have a free phone helpline. However, we feel the Burns helpline is truly unique.

• We are not a call centre; we are five individuals with 7 dogs and a menagerie of other animals between us!

• You will not have to ‘press option 1’ if your dog eats faeces or ‘press option 5’ if your rabbit has a sticky bottom! You can speak to real people who will ring you back.

• We are always trying to persuade owners that they are feeding too much. The opposite of most companies who want to sell more food!

• We are all trained in different areas including zoology, animal science and of course nutrition. However, if presented with an unusual case we will regularly confer with the rest of the nutrition team including Veterinary Surgeon John Burns. This is essential to ensure that the advice we give is accurate and tailored to the pet’s individual needs.

We hope owners will also be assured that our advice is always up to date. We are involved in continuous education courses in everything from behaviour, canine massage and of course nutrition and spend much of our own time doing these courses.

We are also lucky enough to attend the North American Veterinary Conference and the British Small Animal Veterinary Association Congress which are several days of interesting lectures by veterinary surgeons from all over the world. The information we get from these lectures is based on the most recent research on nutrition. We are then able to take this back to the office and put it to good use on the helpline.
