Burns and the Environment

At Burns we take our environmental responsibilities very seriously, and are working with the Green Dragon scheme to reduce our environmental impact.

Burns Pet Nutrition Environmental Policy

Burns Pet Nutrition, based in Kidwelly, Llanelli, distributes its own brand pet food to various pet stores throughout the UK. The business recognises that its operations and activities impact on the environment through use of raw materials, the consumption of energy from non-renewable sources, consumption of water and production of wastes.

We aim to raise environmental awareness, and continually improve our environmental performance, through implementation of an effective Environmental Management System (EMS) that meets the requirements of the Green Dragon Environmental Standard. The Company and its Staff aim to:

• Reduce and prevent pollution from all sources.

• Increase energy efficiency.

• Ensure legal compliance.

• Reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill through recycling and other waste saving initiatives.

• Use materials from suppliers that minimise wastes and encourages reuse and recycling/

• Offer training that will raise environmental awareness and encourage good environmental practice.

This policy will be communicated to members of staff and made available to all interested parties.

August 2007 - We have stopped purchasing branded polythene carrier bags and are seeking alternatives, including compostible and re-usable bags.

We are currently aiming to work towards BS8555 Environmental Management System which in turn can lead to an EU recognized Eco-management and Audit system.

The Burns Head office now includes solar panels for heating water, natural insulation with sheep wool and food is grown organically on site for the staff canteen.
