Newsletter from Burns Pet Nutrition

Welcome to the latest newsletter from Burns Pet Nutrition
June was a record month for sales of Burns Real Food, and further evidence that, despite the competition on pet shop and supermarket shelves with products containing all manner of fashionable additives, there is increasing interest in the common-sense approach of veterinary surgeon John Burns - feeding a simple food containing good quality ingredients, which gives excellent results in pets of all ages.

Jumping Jack Flash!

Jumping Jack Flash

This month a rather unusual athlete will be travelling to America to become the first to represent Great Britain in his chosen sport.

Jack, a black Flatcoat Retriever owned by Penny Draper from Lincoln, has been invited to take part in the Dock Dogs World Championship in Wisconsin, USA.

Dock Dogs challenges the dog to dash along a purpose built 40ft runway and jump headlong into a long portable swimming pool. Quite simply the dog who makes the longest jump wins. No coercion or force is allowed and the emphasis is on the dog having fun.

The problem Penny had was getting his favourite Burns food across the water, so we stepped in and arranged for food and treats to be flown across to await his arrival! Read the whole story!

A Plea for Help!
We had an email from a customer this week asking for help in finding a dog lost in South Wales.

'I belong to a border collie forum and one of the members parents have recently been on holiday to south Wales with their rescue collie called "Annie". Annie was on holiday about 20 miles South of Brecon when she went ahead on a path and disappeared. Nearest village is Ystradfellte. Could be trying to make her way home to W.Midlands.
Annies owners are desperate to have her home safely a.s.a.p. More info and picture on www.doglost.co.uk/forum.asp?ID=8859'

Don't let your dog overheat!
It's always possible that we might have another hot spell of weather in the next month, so please be aware of the danger of leaving a dog in a car when the temperature starts to rise. The Kennel Club suggest the following:-

  • Consider the weather and your journey in advance, especially if you don’t have air conditioning in your car. Think about whether the journey for your dog is absolutely necessary.
  • Make sure your dog has plenty of space in the car and isn’t squashed or forced to sit in direct sunlight.
  • Always make sure there is shade provided, even in an air conditioned car a dog can become too hot if in full sun.
  • Make sure plenty of stops are taken with lots of water available to drink.
  • Take cold water in a thermos rather than a plastic bottle so it stays cold rather than being luke warm. Ice cubes are helpful in a thermos for cooling too.

Daily Mail
There was a letter printed in the Daily Mail on Tuesday 10th July from a correspondent complaining both about veterinary surgeons in general, and dried complete pet food, which she considers to be totally wrong for dogs and cats, preferring to feed raw.

Because there were factual innacuracies in the letter, John Burns felt compelled to respond (hopefully this will be printed!). If you'd like to see what the debate is about then follow this link.

Meet Oskar

Hi Fiona
Just an update on my dogs behaviour. It has been just about a month since he has been on the Burns diet and there is definitely an improvement in his behaviour. I totally believe his change in diet has to have been the reason he has got better because I have not changed his training regime.
Regards
Wendy (with a happy Oskar!)

Meet us at the Royal Welsh
The Royal Welsh Show takes place in Builth Wells from 23 - 26 July and Burns will be there, so if you are planning to visit then do pop in and say 'Hello!'

Who says cats and dogs don't get on?
Workers at the Meriden Humane Society in the US are marveling at a short-haired mother cat that has adopted a 6-day-old Rottweiler puppy that was rejected by its mother.

One Pie with too much filling!
Ardley Kennels in Bicester, Oxon took on a lot when they rescued Pie, an 11 stone Rottweiler/Alsatian cross. The first task was to try and get some weight off him as well as introduce the idea of exercise!

Burns have stepped in to help with the feeding, using Burns High Oats, and so far he has lost 2 stone courtesy of his new healthier lifestyle. However, there's more to lose before Pie can be rehomed!
